Prayer

Daily Prayer Liturgy

Opening Address

Father God, creator of heaven and earth / God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, God of Israel / God and Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ / true and living God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit / have mercy and hear my prayer.

First Prayers

O Lord, open our lips / and our mouths shall proclaim your praise / Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: / as it was, in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Hallelujah / O God, make speed to save us / O Lord, make haste to help us / Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit / as it was, in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Hallelujah.

The Jesus Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me.

Confession of Sin

We confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed / by what we have done, and by what we have left undone / We have not loved you with our whole heart / we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. / We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. / For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ / have mercy on us and forgive us / that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways / to the glory of your name. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty / creator of heaven and earth / I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord / He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit / and born of the Virgin Mary. / He suffered under Pontius Pilate / was crucified, died, and was buried. / He descended to the dead./ On the third day, he rose again. / He ascended into heaven, / and is seated at the right of the Father. / He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, / the holy catholic Church, / the communion of the saints,/ the forgiveness of sins, / the resurrection of the body, / and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Prayer for Family

Lord, I pray that you bless (name each family member by name). / Protect them and keep them safe. / Lead them in the way of life everlasting.

Contemplation (Sitting with Jesus in silence)

Prayer to the Crucified Christ

Lord Jesus, / you stretched out your arms of love upon the hardwood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace. / So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, / may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you, / for the honor of your name. Amen.

Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: / where there is hatred, let me sow love; / where there is injury, pardon; / where there is doubt, faith; / where there is despair, hope; / where there is darkness, light; / where there is sadness, joy. / O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, / to be understood as to understand, / to be loved as to love. / For it is in giving that we receive, / it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, / and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
