Meet the Staff
Steve Russell - Pastor
Pastor Steve Russell has been our spiritual leader for over fifteen years now. His messages are Biblically based, relevant to today's lifestyle, and topical. You will leave worship challenged to be a better believer.
Pastor Steve and his wife Cheryl have been married for over thirty years and they have two married children, Chad (Teresa) Russell and Ryan (Brian) Goggins.
He loves hunting, fishing, playing basketball, working in the woodshop, enjoying his grandchildren, and just about anything that gets him outside.
You can contact Pastor Steve by phone at (812) 372-8495 or by email.
Judy Gilbert - Ministry Support Specialist

Judy keeps the adventures alive in their relationship and loves spending time with friends and family. In her spare time, she sells self defense protection products with Damsel in Defense and works with stained glass and mosaics.
Chad Russell - Senior High Youth Director
Chad began leading the Senior High Youth Ministry at Sandy Hook in January of 2002. Chad has always had a heart for students and loves walking beside them as they grow in their relationship with God.
Some of his favorite memories over the past 10 years include time spent with students serving on mission trips, white water rafting, camping and hanging out at Dairy Queen.
He has been married to his wife, Teresa, since March of 2002 and they have a daughter, Ainsley and a son, Riley.
In addition to leading the youth, Chad teaches A.P. US History at Columbus North High School where he also serves as the National Honor Society’s advisor.
In his free time, Chad enjoys nothing more than chasing Ainsley and Riley around as well as spending time with his wife. He can also be found watching his beloved St. Louis Cardinals and avoiding eating blue M&M’s. (You’ll have to ask him for the story behind that one.)
Contact Chad by phone at or by email.
Jonah and Brittany Sullivan - Celebration Worship Leaders
Jonah and Brittany moved to Columbus after they were married in 2011. Their greatest passions are God and music, and they have enjoyed participating in leading worship for nearly ten years. They have recently decided to make Sandy Hook their home church, and they are excited to lead the congregation in connecting with God through upbeat music and reflective lyrics.
In addition to leading worship, Jonah works at Stonebelt as an employment consultant and Brittany is a Spanish teacher at Columbus East High School. In their free time, they enjoy traveling, going to concerts, watching sports, and spending time outside with their friends and family. They have also been enjoying adjusting to a family of three: their daughter, Brooklynn, was born in October 2013.

Michelle Farnsworth - Choir Director/Organist
Michelle and Doug moved to Columbus 4 years ago and recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. They have 3 grown children: Erin, Mary and Ryan.
Michelle has throughout her life felt called to lead music at church. She began with guitar at age 12 and continued with piano and organ. "Music feeds my soul. It's like prayer with notes." Michelle earned her BM in Organ and Sacred Music at Marygrove College in Michigan. She enjoys working with the choir and the people at Sandy Hook.
You can contact Michelle by email or by calling the church office at (812) 372-8495.
Mindy Smith - Little Lambs/Preschool Director
Mindy started her first job at a local child care at 14 years old where she worked until she left for college. She graduated from Indiana University in 1996 and went to work at Bartholomew County Youth Services Center, a local detention center and shelter for troubled teens. She worked there for three and a half years before coming back to her real love, child care, at Sandy Hook's Little Lambs Child Care Ministry where she has been for the last 13 years.
No two days are ever the same and she wears many hats, not all glamorous, some days even acting as a plumber. But even on the worst days there are 55 blessings that can make her smile at any given moment! And for the last five years the biggest blessing has been having her five year old son, Landon, at 'work' with her every day! Mindy thinks that is like having the best of both worlds.
When not at Little Lambs you can usually find her and Landon at the gym, him doing karate and her doing turboKICK or Zumba, on the soccer fields or spending time with their two dogs, family or friends.
